the town and country lassies

the town and country lassies

The authentic 1960 Barbie fishing pole hangs just above a yellowed newspaper article written by me forty years ago. It says, "The Town and Country Lassies met Thursday evening with Marlene and Janaree Ediger. Vicki Hunnicutt gave the devotions, and Cindy Ulmer demonstrated how to clean windows. Mrs. Leonard Tucker led the group in 'Let's Groom Your Room', and dusting cloths were judged."

Steve and Joan Wilson (seen on the left and the right of Kathryn Decker) were able to come to Elizabeth's open house in January. I enjoyed seeing them and reminded them fondly of the memorial day canoe trip we made together some 30 years ago. They didn't remember it but of course, I do because I have my photos to remind me. That is a whole new dictionary meaning for the term: photographic memory!

Claire, Elizabeth and Laura pose for me just to be kind. They are all wearing the special shirts which Elizabeth brought back from her travels in the Middle East.

Made from a necklace jewelry case and collaged with photos from my own photography (window done with SX70), this assemblage is not finished. It sits here in its rough draft. Nothing is even glued down.

These letters and photos represent a love from 1976. The poem is from David and I quote, "the last time I kissed you and the rocking chair was still and your mouth was like an iris bloom, my eyes stayed closed a long time."

I made this collage fall 04. The quote is torn from a found book. "together. I've tried to imagine all the pivotal points, the exact moment when fate, instead of continuing straight ahead, shifted into reverse."

This handmade book was inspired by one I received from Pam Peden years ago. The quote is mine, coming from my Purely Fiction poetry series. "she was welcomed by the smell of rain, feasts and foreign places"

This collage includes a quote torn from the same book as the quote in 'close view women'. It is not mine. "I passed entire days lanquishing among those trees. The death of a tree is something that causes extreme uneasiness, especially in someone who's been charged with saving it."

This collage/assemblage is in tribute to my girlhood and my grandma marie. The drawer pull and butter knife is from grandma marie's house, as is her 1974 fishing liscense. The other two scripts are mine. One is from a diary when I was 10 years old and the other is a newspaper article I wrote when I was the newspaper reporter for my 4-H club around the same age.
