We arrived at Estes at seven a.m. on Wednesday but couldn't get into our room until four. Here we are posing for a well meaninged passer by. We were actually setting up the pose to take a picture of the woman talking on the phone in the background. We got the shot anyway.

usually from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. the veranda is empty and pleasant for rocking back and forth in wicker rocking chairs looking at the mountains. about 9:45 a.m. the tourists start arriving to take the historic tour and they fill the veranda and take endless pictures of each other.

The group of three made it to the top of Estes Cone. The first to reach the top was Arhia. I suspect that the first thing she did when getting to the top was take her shoes off.

This looks like a golden cup of tea on a brass tray but really it is a map. The lines point out which mountains are in your view and gives you their name. The pool at the Stanley is directly below.

We had perused the farmer's market, taken a walk by the Boulder river, checked out a fabulous map store and needed a rest room. Such a great happenstance that we got to see art while waiting for the bathroom.

After deciding not to wait for a tea room luncheon, we happened upon a free tea tasting station. We got to try black tea and white tea. There were pastries and other free food offerings.

The Stanley Hotel sits up on a hill over looking Estes Park, Colorado. Kathryn and I took a vacation from our normal lives and stayed at this historical mansion for three days.
